PREFERRED GENDER PRONOUN: She/her
IC CHARACTERISTICS
CURRENT CANON POINT: Beginning of season 6
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: 6' / 182cm in height, broad figure, wide shoulders and chest. As a Cardassian, he has light-gray skin, cold, thick and a little rough to the touch, and he has ridges around his eyes which go up from his brow to his forehead, a thinner ridge going down the bridge of his nose, as well as a few scales going along from his ear down the sides of his jaw, forming two ridges on each side. More distinctively, he has two thick vertical neck ridges that go all the way back to the crown of his head. There are various other scales forming different patterns going down his arms, back, torso and legs (mostly around the knees), as well as the back of his hands and his feet. He also has an inverted tear-shaped ridge in the center of his forehead. His hair is black and kept slicked back, varying in length though never kept too short. He has no other bodily hair. He has blue eyes.
DEMEANOR: Garak strikes an imposing presence, and even though he's not too tall, he's bulky and that works to his advantage. He's strong but not incredibly flexible, and sometimes seems more rigid due to certain movements that are harder for him than most humans. He moves calmly and in an almost calculated manner, he's not easy to spook (and you wouldn't want to either). He smiles a lot and generally seems friendly, but those more perceptive might find his gazes and smiles to cause some level of discomfort. He's also prone to getting close to people and invading their personal space, as well as touching them unprompted.
ABILITIES: Like all Cardassians, Garak went through rigorous training as a child, which enabled a variety of mental abilities, such as a photographic memory and the ability to resist various forms of telepathy, mind-reading and mind-control. He's also sturdy and fairly good in a fight, as well as skilled with a wide variety of weapons, however he won't choose to engage in violence unless he has to. Overall he has no extraordinary or supernatural abilities, and certainly nothing potentially game-breaking.
MEDICAL INFORMATION: Garak prefers a darker, warmer and more humid environment than humans. Bright lights and loud noises are uncomfortable for him, and they can reach a point where it's almost unbearable. While not necessarily a medical condition, Garak did use an implant in his brain to bring him some relief, which was disabled four years ago. He's learned to live with the lights and noises back on DS9 over time, but it's still difficult for him to handle these environments, and there's every possibility that under more stress he will try to seek other forms of relief (like alcohol or painkillers).
OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS: Nah, he's good.
OTHER: Garak is incredibly smart and cultured, and he enjoys discussing various topics such as politics, philosophy, literature, music, the meaning of life, et cetera. Also he has a PADD with a collection of Cardassian and Earth literature, music and movies.
Garak used to be a spy for the Obsidian Order. He never discusses this, however. When asked about himself or his life he may be prone to lying about it, if he even answers at all. He's a skilled liar and loves spinning a good tale.
IC PERMISSIONS
MENTAL: Probably not. Garak has trained his mind since he was a child and he's resistant to most forms of mental abilities. It could happen, but only after discussion and plotting.
MIMICRY: Between his looks, mannerisms and speech patterns, Garak won't be easy to mimic. He won't like it, either. Not saying no, but it'd have to be discussed, and there'd still be a very good chance that those closest to him would be able to tell.
VIOLENCE: Garak is both strong and ruthless when he wants to be. He's not completely impervious, but if anyone comes at him he's going to fight back, and he won't hold back on making full use of his abilities, up to and including killing the other person in self-defense.
MAGIC: They can, but let's discuss it first!
DEBATE: YES. Debates and arguments might be some of Garak's favorite things! Just so you know, however, Cardassians can sometimes see arguing as a mating ritual. You have been warned.
OTHER / NOTES: I will update this soon with permissions regarding Garak's tendency to touch people and get in their personal space.
